The company also announced that, along with the other North West Shelf (NWS) Project participants, it had agreed to process 3 million t of LNG and 24.7 of domestic gas at KGP from 2022 to 2025 and to make an additional 45.6 PJ of gas available to the domestic market from 2025.

The gas from Pluto will travel to the NWS’ KGP via an interconnector pipeline in a move Woodside CEO Peter Coleman said will accelerate the production of offshore Pluto gas.

“The Pluto-KGP Interconnector is the first step in realising our vision for a regional LNG hub on the Burrup Peninsula,” he said.

“As the world continues to respond to COVID-19 and volatile market conditions, it is critical that operators and government work together to grow the gas industry, create local jobs and establish WA as a global LNG hub.”

Construction has already commenced on the 5 km 30-inch (762 mm) interconnector, which is being installed along the existing Dampier to Bunbury Natural Gas Pipeline corridor.

The pipeline is anticipated to come online in 2022.
