The draft marine environmental impact assessment (EIA) for GB Energy’s Golden Beach project has been submitted to the government-convened technical reference group (TRG) for review.
The EIA was developed and presented to the TRG by Victorian-based Aventus Consulting, with Managing Director and Principal Environmental Consultant Giulio Pinzone delivering the findings via video meeting due to coronavirus restrictions.
The project will involve the development of the Golden Beach Gas Field in Victoria’s offshore Gippsland Basin and would include the construction of a pipeline and compressor station to connect the field to existing gas networks on Australia’s east coast.
The EIA is a technical appendix that supports the project’s environmental effects statement (EES), which is being prepared by AECOM.
GB Energy said it intends to place the EES on public exhibition in September 2020, while the company also said a recently completed geophysical investigation indicated there were no undersea hazards which would require the company to revise or refine its current offshore pipeline route.
Last month, Australian Gas Infrastructure Group (AGIG) announced it was investigating the possibility of investing $200 million to construct the midstream infrastructure for Golden Beach, and said it could complete the necessary works as early as 2022.
