Watching the detective

The Director of the Business Liaison Unit of ASIO spoke about how pipeline owners and operators can engage with ASIO to assist it in gathering information and producing intelligence about situations that could endanger Australia’s national security.

The presentation was followed by a lively question time which demonstrated the extent to which the assembled pipeliners appreciated the topic!

Maloney Field Services generously sponsored the lunch and made the trip from Adelaide on the day to support the event. The opportunity was also taken by Garth Borgelt, WA Chapter Chairman, to present the prizes to the golf day winners and runners-up, which was not without its controversies as the deliberations over the “˜nearest the pin’ competition highlighted!

The WA Chapter Committee were challenged with adjudicating over a nearest the pin marker which was not actually on the green. After consulting expert opinion and in the interests of fairness to all golfers, the prize was raffled among the non prize-winning golfers.

The WA Chapter’s next event will be the Perth Seminar which will be held on 22 June 2007 at the Parmelia Hilton, followed by the annual dinner dance that evening.

The presentation was followed by a lively question time which demonstrated the extent to which the assembled pipeliners appreciated the topic!

The Melbourne Lunch on 22 March was also privileged to have the Director of the business liaison unit of ASIO address them. Much like the Perth Chapter, the presentation stimulated much debate.
