Wasco poised to service Asia Pacific

More recently, Wasco has been coating line pipe for Chevron’s Gorgon LNG Development. The contract involves coating 850 km of 6 to 34 inch diameter pipe. Wasco was awarded the contract following, its adoption of an incident and injury free program, which was part of a Gorgon project initiative. This also led the company to report zero lost time injuries in 2009.

Wasco, a regional leader in pipe coating solutions for the oil, gas and water industries, owns and operates pipe coating plants in Malaysia, China, Saudi Arabia and Nigeria. The company’s primary regional pipe coating facility is located in Kuantan, Malaysia, approximately 4 km from Kuantan Port. The Kuantan plant offers a comprehensive range of pipe coating systems for pipe ranging in diameter from
4 to 60 inches, and pipe lengths up to 24 m.

Wasco said that Kuantan is also the site of the only fully-integrated deepwater flow assurance pipe coating plant in the Asia Pacific region, enabling the company to offer deepwater insulation coatings and related services such as syntactic polyurethane flow assurance coating, multi-layer polypropylene flow assurance coating, and low-density foam pipe-in-pipe.

“The multi-layer polypropylene coating plant has been designed to coat up to 24 m line pipe lengths, and the coating of double joints significantly improves overall coating integrity,” Wasco said. “It similarly increases the pipelay rate, providing considerable overall savings.”

According to Wasco, almost 2 MMt/a of line pipe is handled by the Kuantan Port. The port’s location along a major shipping route in the South China Sea enables the company to efficiently and economically supply coated pipe to the world. Wasco’s pipe coating business also operates a dedicated jetty facility for barge load in and load out operations.

In addition, Wasco’s pipe coating facility in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, is in close proximity to Malaysia’s only API spiral weld pipe mill. The Sabah plant offers fusion bonded epoxy (FBE) coating, multi-layer FBE coating, three-layer polyethylene coating, three-layer polypropylene coating, and internal lining.
