Van Gogh hits record production

The company announced the first oil from the Van Gogh Phase 2 Development produced the highest initial rate from an individual well in field history.

The well is reported to have produced at a peak rate of 23,200 bbl per day, significantly exceeding any expectations for a single well.

The Van Gogh field (WA-35-L) is one of three subsea oil field developments located in the Exmouth Basin, offshore Western Australia.

Production from Van Gogh (WA-35-L) began in 2010.

Back in March, Santos was given the go-ahead for Van Gogh Infill Phase 2, which entailed the drilling and completion of three new horizontal production wells.

“This is […] the highest peak production seen from a single well in the Van Gogh field and exceeded our pre-drill expectations,” said Santos Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Kevin Gallagher.

Santos is Australia’s second-largest independent oil and gas producer.
