Icon Water is currently in the process of performing upgrades to the Belconnen trunk sewer which, built in the 1960s, is a critical part of Canberra’s sewage network.
With increased demand on water and sewer infrastructures, major developments have grown increasingly necessary, and in addition to improved capacity, the network is also receiving extra ventilation and door control units to protect new and existing infrastructure.
Steel Mains has now finished manufacturing the mild steel cement lined (MSCL) pipes for the Belconnen project.
The pipeline is in the process of installation over a creek crossings, requiring the supply of Sintakote 1219 x 10 pipes.
Civil engineer service provider Diona is responsible for the installation of the pipeline.
Steel Mains said this project had unique requirements such as a specialised paint coating to complement the natural environment it would eventually be located in.
The Belconnen trunk sewer upgrades will comprise four projects over the next few years.
