Pipeline testing, restoration and above ground facilities will be the key focus for the project team over the next few months.
Construction on the pipeline, which is based around long-term agreements with AngloGold Ashanti Australia for the transportation of gas from Yarraloola to AngloGold’s Sunrise Dam and Tropicana gold mining operations, is now at the halfway mark, with first gas scheduled to be delivered from 1 January 2016.
“From an economic and safety perspective, we believe the pipeline provides a better overall energy solution for the region long-term,” APA Group Executive Transmission Rob Wheals said.
APA Program Director Barrie Sturgeon said it was a hive of activity across the various project sites.
“The pipeline has now been welded, coated and buried. Testing is currently underway,” Mr Sturgeon said.
“Prefabricated skids to be used for filtration, metering, gas heating and pressure regulation have arrived at Sunrise Dam and the connection into the existing Murrin Murrin Lateral has also been completed.”
APA Group said commissioning activities at the pipeline are expected to be completed by the end of December 2015.
A joint venture between AJ Lucas and Spiecapag Australia – Spiecapag Lucas – was awarded the construction contract for the pipeline, while an AJ Lucas spokesperson recently told PPO News that the project is about six weeks ahead of scheduled, with all pipe expected to be in the ground by the end of July 2015.
