Superior performance pipelayers

The company now builds equipment for the pipeline industry, including pipelayers, padding and bending machines, vacuum lifts and earthmoving equipment for pipeline projects from 152.4-1,524 mm.

With more than 60 years of experience in the pipeline industry, Superior Manufacturing builds the SPX-Series pipelayers.

The pipelayers are available in three sizes “” SPX-960, SPX-660 and SPX-460, which are similar in capacity to Caterpillar’s 594, 583 and 572, respectively.

All SPX-Series pipelayers are built with Caterpillar Tier 3 engines to ensure optimum performance and efficiency.

The state-of-the-art hydrostatic system ensures safety and reliability and is especially useful when working on steep grades.

Among the valuable features of SPX-Series pipelayers are the design of the counterweight rack and hydraulic system, easy assembly and disassembly of the counterweight rack, and the hydraulic system’s accuracy, which ensures efficiency and high performance.

The SPX-960 has a lifting capacity of 96,000 kg (SPX-660: 66,000 kg and SPX-460: 46,000 kg) and is powered by a Caterpillar C13 ACERT engine with 440 HP (SPX-660: C9 ACERT/350 HP and SPX-460: C7 ACERT/250 HP).

The SPX-Series can lift pipe ranging from 152.4-1,524 mm diameter.

Like all Superior equipment, the SPX-Series is built under CE approval, meaning it meets the European Union’s safety, health and environmental requirements.

Some of the safety features of the SPX-Series include electronic boom kick-out, anti-two block, free fall and the new anti-tipping protection (ATP) anti-tipping system.

To guarantee excellent performance in all weather conditions, the ATP system has new technological arrangements such as waterproof connectors by Deutsch and sealed electronics.

Another optional safety feature is the roll-over protection system (ROPS) and falling object protection system (FOPS), designed to allow the operator a clear view of the top of the boom and the load.

It is also available for the SPD-series padding machines to protect the operator in case the machine should roll or fall over.

Whether buying or renting an SPX-Series pipelayer, the customer can receive operator training on request.

The training focuses on safe and productive operation and minimises costs through proper service and maintenance.
