The company specialises in the development and manufacture of internal coatings for the protection of drinking water, sea water, oil, gas and aviation fuel pipelines. Their coatings have been applied to over 150,000 km of pipe worldwide.
Constant in-depth research and development is carried out in COPON’s modern laboratories to ensure that products meet changing and ever more exacting requirements.
In recognition of the fact that E Wood demonstrated commercial success through innovative products with its COPON Pipelinings, Her Majesty the Queen conferred Her Awards in 2006 upon E Wood in recognition of its outstanding achievement in Innovation. The Queen’s Awards for Enterprise are the UK’s most prestigious awards for business performance.
COPON Solvent-free lining for drinking water pipelines
COPON Pipelinings are internationally recognised as being of the highest quality and are approved and used worldwide. Copon Hycote 162 PWX is the internal coating for drinking water pipelines which was specifically developed for the UK market and has become the standard internal pipe coating for the UK drinking water market.
As water companies have looked to move away from more traditional internal protection methods, such as cement mortar lining, Copon Hycote 162 PWX has been proven to improve water quality and the flow of water through the pipe.
Copon Hycote 162 PWX is a two pack solvent-free epoxy coating, normally applied to a dry film thickness of 500 microns onto steel, concrete or iron ductile pipe. The cured product has been designed to exceed an operational life of 50 years and offers many benefits to the pipe coater and operator.
Being a single coat application, the product eradicates multiple handling procedures during the pipe coating operation and has none of the expensive storage and ventilation problems associated with solvent-based products. Unlike cement mortar linings, the cured product is lighter, allows a degree of flexibility during construction and has a minimal effect on the internal diameter of the pipe. Copon Hycote 162 PWX also offers superior corrosion protection properties for long-life immersed service conditions.
Copon Hycote 162 PWX is fully approved to the highest possible standards for contact with drinking water. During its operating life it will offer the operator the assurance that no potentially harmful chemicals will be leached in the water supply from the applied internal lining.
This lining has been applied to thousands of kilometres of UK drinking water pipelines and has been widely specified for drinking water service in many other countries. Over the past ten years, Copon Hycote 162 PWX has been used on some of the largest drinking water pipeline projects in the world, including the Guarara Drinking Water Transmission Pipeline – the largest pipeline project of its type in Africa; the Ibra Al Qabil Water Pipeline – a trans-country project based in the Middle-East; and the Philadelphia Water Pipeline Project.
Copon Hycote 162 PWX offers a cost competitive and high quality alternative to traditional internal linings for drinking water pipelines.
Social as well as technical focus for IPC
This year’s International Pipeline Conference, to be held in Calgary in September, will feature a wide range of speakers, including veteran diplomat, humanitarian and author Stephen Lewis.
This year’s conference theme is “Beyond Technology” and while the technical program will provide delegates with the latest in technological developments, the keynote speakers will focus on topics related to social responsibility.
Mr Lewis’ work with the United Nations has shaped the past two decades of his career. He also chaired the initial International Conference on Climate Change which drew up the first comprehensive policy on global warming.
In April 2005, TIME magazine listed Stephen Lewis as one of the “˜100 most influential people in the world’.
His book, Race Against Time, was released in October 2005 and was short listed for the Writers’ Trust Award and the Trillium Book Award.
The International Pipeline Conference is honoured to have Mr Lewis as the Opening Plenary Keynote Speaker.
The 6th International Pipeline Conference, the largest gathering of pipeline professionals in the world, will be held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel and TELUS Convention Centre from 25 September through 29 September, 2006.
An anticipated 1100 delegates will have the opportunity to choose from over 300 quality papers in 12 technical tracks; listen to international keynote speakers and participate in a variety of panels, poster sessions and tutorials all pertaining to the future of the pipeline industry.
In conjunction with IPC, there will be an International Pipeline Exposition (IPE) with 200 exhibiting companies from around the world providing attendees with the latest in pipeline equipment, techniques and services.
