Sealing and protecting pipes with Denso

Denso Australia’s coating system range includes the Steelcoat 400, Steelcoat 100, each tailored to different pipe coating needs.

Denso Steelcoat 400

An important component of the Denso Steelcoat 400 System is the Denso Penetrating Primer, which has a delayed bonding action. This can assist applicators with awkward configurations as the tape can be removed and repositioned if needed before a permanent bond is achieved. Denso’s Penetrating Primer also contains additives that allow this system to be applied over poorly prepared surfaces.

It can be difficult to remove all rust and contaminants without high quality abrasive cleaning. Denso said that its coating systems are designed to meet the criteria and limitations of cleaning methods, with the exception of abrasive blast cleaning.

The Denso Steelcoat 400 System has protected assets such as:

  • External pipework on the Darling Downs Bacon Factory;
  • Above ground pipelines for Hamilton Council, New Zealand;
  • Pipe bridge for Northumbrian Water, United Kingdom;
  • Ahinimai Bridge for Napier Council, New Zealand; and,
  • Headstocks on the Goodline BHP Billiton RGP 4 project.

Denso Steelcoat 100

The Denso Steelcoat 100 System is designed for use on steel surfaces when it is not possible to obtain a power tool St2 cleaning standard. The Denso Hi-Tack Primer is formulated for application over thin layers of rust, chlorides and other contaminants.

Denso’s Hi-Tack Tape is modified to be mutually compatible with Denso Hi-Tack Primer and Denso Urethane Topcoat.

The components of this system exhibit excellent adhesion, can be readily painted over, and are highly conformable and stable.

The Steelcoat 100 system has been used as flange and joint protection on the Southern Regional Water Pipeline, as well as for an aerobridge support column at the Brisbane Airport Corporation, pile headstock connections for Papua New Guinea Fisheries and support columns for the Russell Island jetty in Queensland.
