Santos gets green light for Varanus Island

Santos operates the John Brookes and Greater East Spar gas fields off WA’s North West Shelf, with gas and condensate transported from the fields via subsea pipelines to the Varanus Island oil and gas hub.

The National Offshore Petroleum Safety and Environmental Authority (NOPSEMA) has now approved the company’s EP comprising all activities associated with the operation of the John Brookes wellhead platform, associated subsea wells and pipelines, with these activities occurring in the WA-29-L, WA-45-L and WA-13-L licence areas.

The John Brookes Pipeline runs 55 km to the Varanus Island onshore processing facilities from the John Brookes facility, which consists of for producing wells and a normally unmanned wellhead platform.

The offshore facilities are located approximately 127 km northwest of Karratha.
