ROWELD®: absolute pipe welding precision

ROWELD® is one of the world’s most respected names in pipe welding technology. ROWELD® products are used across the world in all types of situations that call for absolute precision when welding plastic pipe, primarily polyethylene.

ROWELD® heritage

ROWELD® is owned, designed and engineered by Rothenberger. Because Rothenberger is a privately-owned business, it is committed to providing the highest quality solutions for any task. For over 60 years, the Rothenberger team has worked across sanitary, heating, air conditioning, refrigeration, gas, mining and environmental technologies. Dedicated to constant improvement and innovation in these fields, the group holds more than 180 patents and trademarks.

Rothenberger founded ROWELD® about 30 years ago. Today, the Rothenberger ROWELD® product program stands for quality and technology from a single source, which is responsible for the complete experience, from internal research and development and in-house production, to training and service for the customer.

Rothenberger has proven history and experience in dealing with the installation and handling of all sorts and sizes of pipe and the ROWELD® products have always been a special yet distinctive part of it.

ROWELD® global

ROWELD® welding machines are used all over the world in different climatic regions, across all styles of terrain. The business has always challenged itself to develop specific solutions for the local market needs. In every market the ROWELD® team seeks to get close to the customer, listen to individual demands and understand the specific market needs before the industry does. This has always been the key for ROWELD®’s success and will continue to be into the future.

Over the last few years, this approach has seen ROWELD® successfully expand its global presence into over 90 countries. This huge global network, combined with a solid research and development group and a proprietary production plant, means that ROWELD® is in a unique position to offer high quality, effective tools built from experiences across the globe.

ROWELD® ANZ

For a long time, while being produced by Rothenberger, ROWELD® was successfully managed, serviced and sold under the iconic Milnes brand in Australia. Following the dissolution of the Milnes company, Rothenberger took back control and distribution of its own specialist product group, supplying the product spasmodically to the market.

Changes to Rothenberger management across Australia and New Zealand (ANZ) a few years ago has led to renewed focus on this category. Aware of the disruption earlier transitions have had on the market and the brands reputation, the team has invested considerable time and resources in securing the product offering and supply for the ANZ region. During this period, ROWELD® has been working with select partners, such as Northern Territory Acrylic and Plastics (NTAP) in the Northern Territory and Fusion in Western Australia and Queensland, to not only ensure it is able to provide the products that deliver absolute precision in any terrain, but also to effectively deliver above standard service and support.

Having achieved this, ROWELD® is now ready to focus on two key objectives:

    • 1. Ensuring it employs its global approach to deliver a comprehensive portfolio of precise plastic welding pipe tools and equipment that can be used in any terrain; and,

  • 2. To nurture and support experts in pipe welding.

To achieve this, Rothenberger recently opened TecSpec®, which is a new facility dedicated to advanced support, service and training in pipe tools and pipe machining equipment for all sectors. This initiative ensures that all ROWELD® products are supported with on-call service and nationally accredited in-field training.

Headed by Phil Shallvey, ROWELD® ANZ is headquartered at
the Rothenberger complex in Sydney and services all customers across ANZ.

Along with a large catalogue of tools and accessories, ROWELD® ANZ provides customers with a complete range of field welding machines across various pipe gauges from 40 mm up to
1,200 mm in:

    • Basic;

    • Semi-automatic; and,

  • Fully automatic computer numerical controlled units.

ROWELD® also produces workshop machines capable of producing pre-fabricated fittings, junctions and specialist bends up to 800 mm and 1,000 mm in straight pipe to pipe joining.

To complement the range of workshop welding units, ROWELD® also manufactures an extensive range of high quality band saws that are capable of working with various pipe types and sizes from 50 mm up to 1,600 mm.

In addition to high quality butt-welding machines for field and workshop use, ROWELD® has data recordable electrofusion units capable of welding all fittings from various manufacturers up to 710 mm and produces all of the vital clamping devices necessary to achieve excellent electrofusion welds.

Add to these a full range of high quality manual extrusion welders, as well as hot air and gas welders used in various aspects of container and pipeline construction, and ROWELD® ANZ has all of the tools and equipment needed to perform any plastic welding task in all of its forms.

“Our rigorous dedication to innovation and improvement is apparent in the entire ROWELD® offering, not just the products,” explained Mr Shallvey.

“Our product offering guarantees that we can provide the most precise welding equipment, no matter where they are working. Add to this the localised service and training support and once again we can confidently deliver on the needs of expert welders across Australia and New Zealand.

“If you have any doubts just call me on 0414 454 659 and I’ll be happy to answer any questions.”

ROWELD® and NTAP: a customer perspective

According to NTAP Owner and Managing Director Ian Commons, NTAP has chosen to invest heavily in the Rothenberger and ROWELD® Equipment brand.

“We now have a 13 welder-strong fleet ranging from P160 through P250, P315, P355 up to the large bore P630 manual hydraulic machines,” said Mr Commons.

“We’ve found Rothenberger’s ROWELD® butt-welder carriages
to be the most robust and durable of the European style
butt-welders and, with the flexibility and capability to adjust clamping configurations, we can cost-effectively shift from high production pipe-to-pipe field welding to complicated fittings and bend fabrication (essential flexibility for tricky on site situations).

“Interchangeability of welder components (carriage, hydraulic packs, heater and cutter) means greater degree of backup redundancy for onsite projects, with the integrated thermostat controller in the larger P630 heater plates a major operational and ergonomic feature.

“As a piping company supporting North Australian mining and construction sectors, we pride ourselves on delivering quality, reliability, and on time, on budget projects. Rothenberger and ROWELD® are an essential part of delivering on our commitments to our clients,” said Mr Commons.
