QCLNG pipeline lowering nears completion

Steep terrain has recently been faced by the pipeline, with the steepest slope along the pipeline route, The Escarpment, located on the Callide Range near Biloela, being 131 m high with a 30 degree angle rise.

Crews added a 200 t anchor block to their conventional equipment for the challenge, with machinery tethered to the block to allow safe clearing of the easement and trenching works.

20, 12 m sections of 1 m diameter steel pipe were welded at the bottom of the hill, with the string winched up 24 m at a time on rollers installed in the trench as each joint was completed.
The process took less than three weeks.
