The 219 km high-pressure natural gas pipeline will connect the Moomba – Sydney Pipeline and the proposed Wellington Gas-Fired Power Station, located in central western New South Wales.
The pipeline will extend across the four local government areas of Young, Cowra, Cabonne and Wellington and nine major watercourses and be buried at a depth of 750 mm.
The steel pipe will have a maximum external diameter of 508 mm and the pipeline’s maximum operating pressure will be 15.3 mega pascals.
ERM said a final investment decision on the construction of the Wellington power station, including the Young to Wellington Pipeline, is expected in 2012.
Construction would take about two years from the final decision.
The 640 MW Wellington power station will source gas from Central Australia via the Moomba – Sydney Pipeline and the Central West Pipeline.
