A specialised engineering partner since 1992, Dhatec aims to improve logistic processes for the line pipe industry. One issue facing the industry is the safe and efficient transport of pipe. Dhatec has created the Pipe Raiser, which allows for two pipes of 50-60 inches on one truck by raising one pipe above the other. The company says that this reduces necessary transport costs by half.
Rigorous Pipe Raiser testing
The design of Dhatec’s Pipe Raiser is based on extensive research and calculations. Thorough testing has been undertaken with the help of Wagenborg and Europipe, who provided the truck and pipes.
In Dreierwalde, Germany, the system was tested according to VDI 2700 standards over a period of two days. Police witnessed the tests that included front and back braking, S-curves and U-turns in both directions. The necessary G-forces for non-linear motion were reached in all directions (0.5 G to each side, 0.8 G to the front, 0.5 G to the back). The U-turns were taken at such a pace that the truck would have rolled if it weren’t for the supporting wheels. The Pipe Raiser and the pipes, however, remained in place at all times. This testing, together with supporting calculations, convinced safety consultancy TÜV Nord that the Pipe Raiser is safe for road traffic. For this innovation, which improves worldwide pipe transport, Dhatec received a TÜV certificate.
Raising the bar
The Pipe Raiser offers a reliable and re-usable solution that can be applied in all climates. Detailed adjustment settings, which are supplied by the company, make it easy to re-arrange the system for any diameter between 50 inches and 60 inches.
The Pipe Raiser is an extension of Dhatec’s system for pipe transport, known as System88. The company says that all of its products aim to ensure the quality of line pipes throughout the logistic process from manufacturing to coating, transport, storage, handling and construction. In addition, Dhatec assists project managers to organise the logistics of pipeline projects.
