Petro Coating Systems’ (PCS’s) new petrolatum plant was commissioned in June 2009, incorporating a range of technologies designed to ensure a level of product quality and consistency not previously seen in the Petrolatum Tape arena.
The manufacturing efficiencies introduced with this new plant have enabled PCS to become a globally competitive manufacturer of PetroGard and MarineGard petrolatum products for the pipeline and jetty pile markets.
PCS is now exporting these products to South East Asia, North Asia, North America and Europe.
The company says that overseas markets will continue to grow as more resources are dedicated to this key tenet of the business expansion plan.
New petrolatum products
A number of new products have been progressively added to the PetroGard range, including PetroGard Plast Tape and PetroGard Flex Tape.
These products have been added to intially service the European market and meet the requirements of EN standards. Both products have a plastic backing film, as is the European norm, and these will be progressively trialled with Australian and New Zealand clients during 2010.
PetroGard UltraLite Mastic has also been added to PCS’s range. This product has been introduced to enable rapid filling and profiling of complex irregular profiles typically encountered with valves and offtakes prior to the application of PetroGard Tapes.
New bitumen tape products
PetroCote 1650 Tape has now been introduced to the PetroCote range of plastics/bitumen laminate tapes.
This product has an ultra heavy duty PVC 750 micron thickness backing film and is designed for the most aggressive soil conditions.
Coating services division
Responding to an identified need in the pipeline industry for high quality short run coating services, PCS launched its Coating Services division in 2009.
Coating Services has gone from strength to strength, meeting a previously unfulfilled need in the market place for quality assured coating applications for field joints and short run shop coating applications.
Contracts have been fulfilled for the coating of linepipe, horizontal directional drilling and field joint coating projects. Powercrete R95 Novolac Epoxy has featured heavily in these projects and this will soon be complemented by Powercrete R65 F1, which delivers the same benefits as R95 with faster cure times.
