Origin Zero appoints head

Executive general manager appointed to Origin Zero

Origin Energy has announced the appointment of James Magill for the newly created role of executive general manager of Origin Zero.

Origin CEO Frank Calabria said the company was “thrilled” to welcome Magill to the new position.

“With a strong pedigree in energy, utilities and customer-facing roles, James has the ideal mix of skills to lead this important new function.”

“We look forward to welcoming James to Origin and the leadership team when he commences in the new year.”

Origin Zero will assist in the acceleration of Origin’s delivery of cleaner energy products and services to business customers.

Calabria said Magill’s new role represented the changing nature of business and its customers as the company lead the energy transition.

“[Customers] are asking Origin to help them achieve their climate change commitments,” he said.

“Origin Zero will seamlessly support our customers with everything from traditional energy supply to renewable energy supply and firming, to commercial solar and storage, through to demand management, offsets and other solutions and services.”

The appointment comes after Magill departed from New Zealand’s Genesis Energy as executive general manager.

Origin’s decision to create a new unit focused on cleaner energy solutions mirrors similar decisions by energy companies such as AGL, who previously split the company in two to plan for the energy transition.
