Origin Energy has appointed Andrew Thornton as executive general manager for integrated gas, with responsibility for Australia Pacific LNG’s (APLNG) upstream operations and gas marketing.
Thornton will also be responsible for Origin’s upstream assets in the Beetaloo, Cooper and Canning basins and business development and investment activity in renewable fuels and carbon management.
As a member of the executive leadership team, Thornton will report to Origin chief executive Frank Calabria.
Thornton’s appointment became effective from 1 November, after having acted in the role since June this year.
Thornton joined Origin in 2012, serving in strategic, commercial and operational roles across the company.
Before joining Origin, Thornton was in private equity and investment banking, working with big names like Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley.
CEO Frank Calabria formally welcomed Thornton to the leadership team, stating his wealth of energy experience made him well qualified for the role.
“With his strong commercial and operational experience, Andrew is well positioned to help us deliver on our strategy and harness our strengths in gas to support the continued growth of renewables and help maintain reliable energy supply through the transition,” Calabria said.
