OneSteel Piping Systems delivers actuated and manual valves to Moranbah

The CH4 production facilities order was placed by consultant Worley Engineering for Neway and Kitz ball valves, sizes 50 mm through 450 mm, with Bettis and El-O-Matic actuation and ESD instrumentation.

The NQGP Alliance order, placed by Engineering Manager GHD Pty Ltd, covered a range of similar sized ball valves from SRI (France), LCM (Italy) and Kitz (Japan) in pressure classes 150 through 1500. All NQGP valves had Bettis scotch- yoke actuators.

The CH4 and NQGP actuated valve packages had instrumentation and controls by leading manufacturers including Asco, Herion, Westlock, El-O-Matic HDX (Limit Switches), Swagelok, Norgren and Bettis Pressure-Matic (Pilot Valves). The instrument panel design and assembly was by OneSteel.

Delivery of the completed assemblies to Moranbah presented the usual packaging challenge but the problem was reduced by the provision of fabricated steel “feet” on all valves larger than 150 mm. These supports were then bolted to timber cross-beams in custom-made crates allowing safe transport and unloading at site.

Concurrent with the Moranbah projects, OneSteel’s actuation department was busily engaged with the assembly of actuated valve packages to other sites including Comalco, Gladstone (Duke Energy, now Alinta), Mereenie, N.T. (Santos) and Minerva Gas Development, Victoria (KBR, Process Group and Emerson Process Management).

OneSteel has also met export orders to US and Canadian companies with contracts in Australia for gas-fired equipment requiring Australian Gas Association (AGA) approved shut-off and vent valves. The success of these North American contractors underlines the ever-increasing globalisation of industry. This is evidenced by the success of Australian design and installation contractors exporting to the world market in recent years.

OneSteel’s unique position in the Australian market – as steel pipe manufacturer, steel distributor and valve & fitting stockist and supplier – simplifies materials procurement for local and overseas contractors, and minimises costs associated with opening multiple supplier accounts, sourcing, expediting and quality control.
