The $A54 million project is intended to secure Goulburn’s long-term water supply by transferring up to 5 ML/d of water from the Wingecarribee Reservoir, to the Goulburn water supply system at the Rossi Weir rising main, which feeds into the Goulburn Water Treatment Plant.
New South Wales Minister for Planning Tony Kelly said “This project, which is expected to take around 18 months to complete, will employ 60 people during construction.”
Goulburn Mulwaree Mayor Geoff Kettle said “This approval will now allow Council to concentrate on the tendering process for the project’s construction. Councillors will meet on 22 November for a workshop to discuss the tenders, with an extraordinary meeting proposed for 30 November, where we will make our final decision.”
The Australian Government and the New South Wales Government are contributing up to $A20 million each towards the project, in recognition of Goulburn’s need for a reliable water supply.
