NOPSEMA greenlights well abandonment

The National Offshore Petroleum Safety and Environmental Management Authority (NOPSEMA) has approved Esso’s campaign to permanently plug and abandon the Seahorse and Tarwhine subsea wells in production licences VIC/L1 and VIC/L18 in the eastern Bass Strait.

The wells are located south of Lakes Entrance off the Gippsland coastline in a water depth of approximately 43 m.

Esso will use the Noble Tom Prosser jack up rig for the activity, which will commence this month and be completed before September 2021.
