NOPSEMA delays BP drilling decision

NOPSEMA has advised BP that it will be taking additional time to assess the company’s environment plan proposing the drilling of the Stromlo-1 and Whinham-1 explorations wells in the Great Australian Bight.

NOPSEMA will deliver its next assessment decision for the plan by 29 September.

BP is proposing to drill four oil and gas exploration wells in Commonwealth marine waters in the Great Australian Bight, with exact well locations yet to be determined for all wells.

The project is scheduled to commence in the summer of 2016-2017, with each well taking between 45 and 170 days to drill, although only one prospect within the 12,200sq.km area covered by EPP 37 EPP 38, EPP 39 and EPP 40, has been identified to date.
