New package to support QLD gas

Queensland Minister for Natural Resources, Mines and Energy Dr Anthony Lynham said he had obtained approval to announce the package that waves rents, freezes fees, relaxes requirements and makes more land and funds available to stimulate exploration within the state even while the COVID-19 pandemic goes on.

Rent on exploration land will be waived for a 12 month period between 1 April and 1 September this year, while fees and charges will be frozen until 1 July 2021.

The state government also said 6700 km2 of land will go to tender for gas exploration in central and southwest Queensland on 14 May.

“A strong pipeline of exploration is critical to our future mineral and gas projects, to future jobs and to future business opportunities for Queensland companies,” said Dr Lynham.

“We have to ensure the survival of our explorers, many of them small to medium businesses, until the current situation improves and the economy recovers.”

From today, explorers can also apply for grants of up to $2 million for new and innovative exploration projects.
