Monadelphous acquires KT

On 1 July 2010, Monadelphous launched a new infrastructure division with a focus on transmission pipelines, water, and solid waste management.

Monadelphous Managing Director Rob Velletri said the new division would consolidate the company’s growing portfolio of infrastructure projects and advance its strategy of diversification to continue to drive long-term growth.

“It will also allow us to extend our range of services for existing customers and attract new types of customers, such as in the government sector,” Mr Velletri said.

KT, which operates from Midvale on the outskirts of Perth, has been in operation since 1986 and has constructed high pressure gas pipeline projects throughout Australia and overseas.

Its latest major contract is for Chevron’s Gorgon LNG Development on Barrow Island. The contract is valued at approximately $85 million and involves the installation of onshore pipelines, cables and tubes. Operated by Chevron, the Gorgon project is a joint venture between the Australian subsidiaries of Chevron, ExxonMobil, Shell, Osaka Gas, Tokyo Gas and Chubu Electric Power.

KT has delivered projects for major companies including Alinta Energy, Origin Energy, Santos, Epic Energy, and Oil Search. Other recent projects include a 30 km gas pipeline at Neerabup, north of Perth, a 130 km high-pressure slurry pipeline in Papua New Guinea, and components of the Dampier to Bunbury Natural Gas Pipeline expansion.

In the acquisition, Monadelphous acquired 100 per cent of the shares in KT Pty Ltd for a combination of cash and an issue of shares in Monadelphous. Following the acquisition, KT Pty Ltd now trades as KT Pipeline Services.

Monadelphous said that it would retain the management team at KT, which includes Business Development Manager Kevin Wolfe and Operations Manager Tim Wolfe.

The new Monadelphous Infrastructure division is headed by engineer Stuart Murray, who moved from his previous position as General Manager of Instrumentation and Electrical Business in Monadelphous’ Engineering Construction division.

Infrastructure is one of three Monadelphous operating divisions, alongside Engineering Construction, and Maintenance and Industrial Services.

Monadelphous has an established business in the water facilities sector and in March 2010 announced a joint venture with Perth-based AnaeCo to design and construct waste management solutions using AnaeCo’s patented DiCOM bioconversion system.
