Metrology measuring expands refurbishment capabilities for Australian engineering company

Sourced from the USA, the Faro Laser Tracker is a metrology measuring tool capable of a high degree of accuracy; therefore allowing Leussink engineers to measure data points accurately to 2µ over large distances, (for example 30-50m).

The unit has already been used in one important project as part of the company’s technical alliance with German company Corts (Corts-Leussink alliance).

This was at a hot strip mill for BlueScope where it took measurements and helped to report on the customer’s facility, the actual size of the component that was due for refurbishment, and what aspects of this part needed repair to original condition.

Amongst this new technology acquisition is a Faro articulated arm that is connected to encoders to allow it to perform in larger areas. When using the two devices at once it can measure front and back of equipment simultaneously.

The Faro Laser Tracker ION accurately performs measurements within many applications that Leussink are expected to encounter now that the company is more closely indulging in refurbishment work for the heavy industries.

It operates in real time and is particularly effective in measuring alignment and providing proper trending and distortions.

The equipment allows Leussink to compare complex geometry, surfaces and feature positions to nominal data without any need to relocate the part to any fixed inspection tool.

It also provides the company with full volumetric accuracy tests and verifies dimensional integrity and repeatability.
