Meridian Energy, a renewable energy company in New Zealand, has appointed Tania Palmer as the new general manager.
After previously holding the position of chief people officer, Palmer will start as the general manager on 6 December 2021.
Meridian chief executive Neal Barclay said Tania stood out due to her deep passion and expertise.
“Tania has worked is asset-intensive, operational businesses for most of her 30-year career, including 12 years at Contact Energy,” Barclay said.
Barclay said Palmer’s experience in building positive and resilient work cultures that are founded on safety, wellbeing and constructive leadership behaviours also made her stand out.
“She has a deep understanding of the operational generation environment, having led a transformational safety culture change and provided governance leadership to a Process Safety programme, and major procurement/supplier review at Contact,” he said.
Meridian senior managers Mat Bayliss and Richard Griffith were interim general manager generation for 12 months before Palmer’s appointment.
Bayliss and Griffith were both in the position for six-months respectively.
“I also acknowledge both Mat and Richard, whose leadership and experience jointly running our generation team in the last months has been exceptional,” Barclay said.
The process to appoint chief people officer is currently being carried out.
