MCJV was engaged by Origin on behalf of APLNG to undertake an early works contract through the front-end engineering and design (FEED) stage of the pipeline project.
MCJV was subsequently engaged as the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor, responsible for approximately 720 km of large diameter high pressure gas transmission pipelines – up to 1,066mm in diameter – and associated pipeline facilities connecting the CSG fields in the Surat and Bowen basins to Curtis Island, off Gladstone, Queensland.
MCJV Project Director Mark Barrows said that McConnell Dowell and its partners are very excited to be short listed for the 2015 ACA award.
“It is an honour to be recognised as one of the top six construction projects in Australia amongst such tough competition,” Mr Barrows said.
“With the added complexity of stakeholder and environmental constraints, the project has raised the bar in industry standards in a number of key areas.
“Using a collaborative and creative management strategy, impacts and delays were mitigated and innovative construction methodology was developed to ensure a high standard of project delivery”.
Other finalist projects include the Adelaide Oval redevelopment in South Australia, Fiona Stanley Hospital in Perth, Gold Coast Light Rail, One Central Park in Sydney and the Victorian regional rail link.
The winner of the award will be announced in May this year, following an on-site visit from judges in March.
Origin and ConocoPhillips each hold a 37.5 per cent interest in the APLNG Project, which is due to commence production in mid-2015, with Sinopec holding the remaining 25 per cent.
