McDermott wins Bayu-Undan contract

Santos has awarded McDermott International a subsea, engineering, procurement, construction and installation contract for the Bayu-Undan Infill Well Phase 3C Project.

Located in the Timor Sea approximately 500 km offshore northwest Darwin and 200 km off the southeast coast of Timor-Leste, the project comprises three production wells and will develop additional natural gas and liquids reserves, extending field life as well as production from the Bayu-Undan offshore facilities and the Darwin LNG plant.

McDermott’s work will involve a tieback of a single in-field well to existing facilities re-using existing flexible flowline with a new umbilical and certain infrastructure.

Contracted works begun in May this year and the scope is being managed by McDermott’s office in Perth.

McDermott Senior Vice President Asia Pacific Mahesh Swaminathan said the company was well-equipped to complete the contract.

“McDermott has a strong track record of delivering complex subsea projects in Asia Pacific,” he said.

“We will continue that tradition as we demonstrate our execution expertise and safety excellence throughout this project.”

Santos has a 43.4 per cent operated interest in Bayu-Undan, while the remaining interest is held by SK E&S (25 per cent), INPEX (11.4 per cent), Eni (11 per cent), JERA (6.1 per cent), and Tokyo Gas (3.1 per cent).

First production from the project is expected in Q3 this year.
