McConnell Dowell wins waste line contract

The company has signed a design and construct contract with Queensland Alumina Limited (QAL) for the project’s delivery, encompassing a 8.8 km DN 350 steel pipeline.

The Waste Line Replacement Project comprises the design of the new waste line and the augmentation design of the support structure; removal of the existing pipeline; augmentation of the support structures, including approximately 1400 piles within tidal and marine zones and installation of the new waste line.

McConnell Dowell said this project marks the beginning of what it hopes will be a longstanding partnership with QAL and the continuation of its successful relationship with major shareholder Rio Tinto.

The company said its expertise in working in marine environments, leading pipeline construction capability and its commitment to maximising local participation provides a strong foundation for the project’s success.

Works have now commenced and will be delivered through 2020-21.
