Located in the country’s South Island, the pipeline supplies fuel from Lyttelton Port to be distributed around the region.
McConnell Dowell’s contract includes the construction and commissioning of a replacement section of the pipeline along Bridle Path Road and in Kiwirail land, beside the Heathcote Valley Primary School.
The company will replace the pipeline running through the school with a larger buried DN150 pipeline and will replace 1,210 m of the line up the Bridle Path Road to a tie-in location just above the level of the tunnel entrance.
An offset will be employed so the existing pipe remains in service during installation, with the only shut down required to be for the two tie-ins at either end.
The pipeline is owned by ExxonMobil’s New Zealand subsidiary Mobil Oil New Zealand Limited.
