Following on from the success of its HD Spacer for light to intermediate pipelines, kwik-ZIP has now introduced the HDX Spacer, a high capacity spacer for heavy-weight pipe applications that delivers all the benefits of its predecessor and more.
Suitable for use with large ductile iron cement-lined, mild steel cement-lined, steel, and thick-walled high density polyethyelene pipe, among others, the HDX supports carrier pipe from 100 mm outside diameter (OD) up to 1,600 mm OD and beyond.
“Each unit has a unique “˜load sharing runner’ design that maximises weight sharing across multiple runners. This reduces point loading on the casing internal surface, which in turn boosts and optimises the overall support capacity of the spacer,” explains kwik-ZIP’s David King.
“However, unlike traditional rigid pipe spacers, the HDX design provides a suspension and dampening effect, resulting in a reduction in the transfer of potentially damaging vibration and movement from the outer casing to the carrier pipe.”
kwik-ZIP units are recognised for their versatility, which provides customers with a choice of runner heights to accommodate a broad range of pipe OD/casing inside diameter combinations.
This advantage is also exhibited in the HDX, which is available in four runner heights up to 125 mm. Installers can easily handle various annular clearances, including the larger clearances and pipe flanges that are common with large OD pipe installations.
“The ability to customise pipe position, “˜centre’ and “˜restrain’ within the casing is another strong HDX plus,” says Mr King. “This is achieved by combining different runner heights in each spacer – especially useful if “˜grade control’ is a requirement in the installation.
“Running drag, friction and abrasion during installation can also be concerns. Yet the HDX design includes very low co-efficient of friction runners that minimise these and promote smooth pipe insertion.
“So if time really is money, and if time is a concern on your next project, the HDX is for you – quick installation, no specialist tools, and hassle free,” says Mr King.
