Jemena initiates COVID relief package

Known as the Small Retailer Relief Package, the initiative came into effect on 1 July and will run until 31 December 2020.

Participating small retailers will be able to defer the distribution portion of its eligible small business and residential gas bills for up to three months.

Jemena Managing Director Frank Tudor said the distribution charges account for between 35 and 40 per cent of a typical household gas bill.

“We know customers benefit from the competition smaller retailers bring to the market, which helps to place downward pressure on energy bills and improve customer service,” he said.

“Our ambition is to help ensure these retailers are able to weather the impacts of COVID-19 so they can continue to operate and bring competition and choice to the market over the long-term.”

Jemena is also offering the support package to its Victorian electricity customers.
