The 16 inch (406 mm) Norphlet deepwater gathering pipeline system runs approximately 87 km from the Appomattox Floating Production System, operated by Shell, to the Transco Main Pass 261A junction platform located approximately 96.5 km south of Mobile, US.
The system was originally constructed by Shell and CNOOC Petroleum Offshore USA and will connect Williams’ existing Transco offshore pipeline lateral to the Jurassic play developed by the other two companies in the eastern Gulf of Mexico.
An estimated 7.4 million – 8.2 million m3 of natural gas can be gathered by the system, with the completed project also including the installation of a spare subsea connector for additional floating production system volumes.
Williams President and CEO Alan Armstrong said the company was excited to be working with Shell and CNOOC.
“Shell has exhibited a tremendous history of successful largescale developments across the Gulf of Mexico and early indications here are for that to continue in this Jurassic play with their additional discoveries,” he said.
Approximately 50 per cent of the pipeline’s contractual capacity remains available.
