An additional 82 projects are due to be awarded in the period up to March, 2004, with a further value of more than å£330 million. All projects are part of the largest of three framework agreements awarded by United Utilities, which runs until the end of March, 2005, with a value in excess of å£370 million.
KMI Water is combining the skills and resources of Murphy, Kier Construction, and Interserve Project Services, to deliver these projects in line with United Utilities’ AMP 3 programme. The two schemes completed to date are a å£700,000-project to upgrade the embankment at Rivington Reservoir, and a å£300,000-project to undertake various remedial works at four impounding reservoirs. Other projects which are currently live and on schedule for completion include:
Wyre UID (unsatisfactory intermittent discharges): a å£7-million project, awarded in September, 2002, and scheduled for completion about now, to improve unsatisfactory overflow discharges from the sewer network along the Wyre Estuary as part of United Utilities’ environment improvements.
Buckton Castle water treatment works: this is a å£5-million project to improve drinking water quality from the existing water-treatment plant, and involves major works to modify the existing facility whilst maintaining full capacity of the plant during a new construction phase.
The Rivington to Lostock pipeline is a å£3.3-million project to provide a new pipeline between an existing and a new water-treatment works. The pipeline is 5.5km in length, and includes crossing major roads and approximately 2.5km across a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). Pilling wastewater treatment works: a å£2.2-million project to construct a new wastewater treatment works adjacent to an existing facility.
