Uganda has been negotiating with the Kenyan government to extend the Mombasa – Eldoret Oil Pipeline to Kampala and reverse the pipeline’s flow in order to allow oil transport to Mombasa.
The 351 km pipeline from Eldoret to Kampala is being built under a public private partnership between the Kenyan and Ugandan governments as well as Libyan contractor Tamoil East Africa. Construction on the Eldoret – Kampala pipeline was to start in April 2009; however construction of the pipeline is yet to commence.
Uganda’s Commissioner for Petroleum Supplies Ben Twado has said that the Ugandan Government is considering a pipeline to Tanzania to export its oil supplies once production begins, but that it is too early to provide any possible details.
