Transneft put into operation its new Ultrasonic Defectoscope 20-DKP.00-00.000 designed for randomly oriented defect detection.
Equipped with an ultrasonic metering system capable of the transmitting an ultrasonic signal into the pipe wall, the tool was developed by the company’s engineers for the ILI of oil and petroleum product pipelines with diameters of 20 inches (508 mm).
During the tool’s integrated testing, the instrument was checked for climatic (temperature from –40°Сelsius to +50°С) and mechanical exposures, as well as conducting a fluid test at the functioning Ufa-West oil pipeline operated by Transneft Urals.
The verification confirmed the detectability and defects metering by the instrument were compliant with the terms of reference.
The development of the inspection tool started in November 2015 and was completed in October 2018.
Currently, Transneft Diascan operates 5 ultrasonic Defectoscopes to reveal randomly oriented defects in pipelines with diameters from 20 to 48 inches (508 to 1,220 mm).
