The Mid-South Expansion project is designed to extend the Transco natural gas pipeline to the city of LaGrange, Georgia.
The company plans to file an application with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) between September and December 2010 to seek approval to construct the project.
Subject to approval by the FERC and other agencies, the proposed expansion would consist of approximately 37 km of new pipeline, a new compressor facility in Dallas County, Alabama, and upgrades to existing compressor facilities in Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina.
The project is expected to cost $US214 million.
The project is currently being developed to be constructed in two phases; 92 MMcf would be placed into service in the fourth quarter of 2012, and 126 MMcf would be placed into service in the third quarter of 2013.
The Transco Pipeline is a 16,093 km pipeline system, which transports natural gas to markets throughout the northestern and southeastern United States. The system currently has a total transmission capacity of approximately 8.6 Bcf/d.
