The Unpiggable Pipeline Solutions Forum (UPSF) will be held held from 15-16 May 2013, at the Marriott Westchase Hotel in Houston, Texas, and is a unique event that brings together industry experts to solve the unpiggable puzzle and provide guidance for training and maintenance of pipelines.
The event, organised by Tiratsoo Technical (a division of Great Southern Press) and Houston-based Clarion Technical Conferences, continues with the objective of addressing capabilities and guidance concerning tools for corrosion and mechanical damage inspection of “unpiggable’ oil, gas and hazardous liquids pipelines. This specialised event will on existing technologies as well as those in research and development.
Mr Vaughn will be speaking on the morning of Wendesday 15 May presenting his paper, Regulators perspective on “Unpiggable’ segments: the need for better analysis to match assessment methods with integrity threats. The paper will discuss the need for better engineering/risk analysis to match assessment methods with integrity threats, instead of routinely hydrotesting pipelines that are supposedly “unpiggable.”
This paper will add more value to the handpicked programme that will will cover a range of topics important for pipeline owners operators and contractors.
The programme was selected by an advisory committee making sure the best speakers are selected to present the information. Chaired by Dr Keith Leewis, P-PIC, the Programme Advisory Committee is made up of:

- John Tiratsoo, Tiratsoo Technical.
Advances and best practices in above-ground remote assessments, guided wave technologies, and internal corrosion direct assessment methods will form a significant part of the programme. Live-line access techniques, combined with low-flow restriction robotic and wire-line-powered internal inspection tools; will also be a special focus, especially for pipeline segments that cannot be taken out of service when further integrity inspections are required.
