With a total transportation capacity of 6 Bcm/a, the $US539 million new pipeline – built in parallel with the old pipeline – links gas fields in Sebei with Qingh ai province’s capital city Xining and Lanzhou, in Gan su province.
The old Sebei – Xining – Lanzhou pipeline, with a total length of 953 km and gas transit capacity of 3 Bcm/a, is still operational. Construction on the pipeline was completed in late 2001.
A PetroChina official, Hu Wanzhi, said the pipeline would “serve as a reliable source for the West East natural gas pipeline to fulfil fast-growing downstream demand”.
