The whole of Phase 3, which was initiated in 2013, included the installation of more than 900 km of new pipeline along the route of Pembina’s Peace and Northern systems, as well as upgrading and adding new mainline pump stations.
Within that included the construction of 290 km dual 16 inch (4,064 mm) and 24 inch (6,096 mm) diameter pipelines from Fox Creek to Namao in Alberta , as well as a 12 inch (3,048 mm) diameter line from Wapiti to Kakwa, also in Alberta.
“Placing our Phase III Expansion into service is an exciting milestone for Pembina as we’ve now successfully completed the largest capital project in our history,” said Paul Murphy, Pembina’s Senior Vice President, Pipeline and Crude Oil Facilities.
“Our customers will benefit from the newly increased capacity, as our pipelines were previously under apportionment, and they will also realise enhanced service offerings and operational efficiencies from being able to flow segregated product in separate pipelines.
“In addition, we will be able to provide a ratable flow of ethane-plus and propane-plus into both Pembina and third-party fractionators in the Fort Saskatchewan region, which will help to optimise operations at these facilities.”
The announcement of the Phase 3 Expansion operations were among CA$2.8 billion (US$2.16 billion) of integrated capital projects Pembina announced it had put into operations, which also included services at major delivery points at its third fractionator at Redwater and its Candian Diluent Hub.
Pembina operates an approximate 10,000 km pipelines network across Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan and North Dakota.
