WORK on the $480-million ‘White Oil Pipeline’ project started on 26 August after its inauguration by the President of Pakistan, General Pervez Musharraf. The 817-km long, 26-in diameter, line will run from Port Qasim, Karachi, to the Pak Arab Refinery Co at Mahmood Kot, Multan, in the Punjab. The multi-products pipeline will carry refined oil products from Karachi to the Punjab, eliminating the increasing traffic burden of oil tankers, and will have a capacity of 12 million tons/yr.
The project is being constructed materialized by a joint venture which his made up of PARCO with a 51% share, Shell (26%), Caltex (12%), and Pakistan State Oil with 11%.
