Enbridge and BP will seek any necessary US state and federal approvals regarding the transaction. “BP retains complete operatorship of the pipeline, as it does today,” said Chris Maudlin, Olympic’s President, speaking at the time of the announcement on 12 December. “The day-to-day operations of the Olympic Pipe Line will continue unchanged and BP will continue to operate the pipeline with safety as our top priority.”
Olympic is a 640-km long interstate pipeline system that includes 12-in, 14-in, 16-in, and 20-in pipelines. The pipeline runs along a 478-km long corridor from Blaine, Washington, to Portland, Oregon, and transports gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel. This fuel originates at four Puget Sound refineries, two in Whatcom County and two in Skagit County, and is delivered to Seattle’s Harbor Island, Seattle’s Tacoma International Airport, and Portland’s international airport, among other termini. Olympic plays a major role in the transportation infrastructure of the US West coast, supplying up to 325,000brl/d of fuel.
