Oil giant recognises inspection innovation

OCENSA, one of the largest transporters of oil in Colombia, awarded ROSEN with the operator’s Transformation and Innovation Award for 2019.

The award recognises the inspection ROSEN completed over the past year on a challenging 42 inch (1,067 mm) diameter subsea pipeline on the Conveñas Coast.

The conditions surrounding the pipeline prohibited inspection with traditional methods, so the company’s Challenging Pipeline Diagnostics Division provided a tailored inspection solution including the use of high-resolution magnetic flux leakage (MFL-A ULTRA) technology in a bidirectional configuration.

“The contract was signed based on an idea because, as with most unpiggable pipelines, there were no ready-to-go solutions available,” said ROSEN Leading Project Manager Udo Rühle.

“Therefore, getting the tool designed, manufactured, assembled, tested and signed off on was a big challenge.

“The team worked great together to pull it off and get the solution delivered in time.”

ROSEN Director of Business Execution South America Leonardo Mendoza Sanchez, who accepted the award on behalf of the company, said it was an import recognition and the company valued the collaboration with OCENSA.

“We are a company dedicated to innovation and this service is unique worldwide, the first of its kind,” he said

“I’d like to thank our team and also the colleagues from OCENSA.”
