The court’s decision reversed a lower court’s decision that abolished the pipeline’s route through Nebraska, USA, which means that Keystone XL once again has a legal route through Nebraska.
According to Reuters, the court’s decision removes one of the last hurdles for US President Obama to settle the fate of the oil pipeline.
After months of deliberation the court has allowed a route for the pipeline to cross the state, thus shifting the debate over the pipeline to Washington, where Republicans are seeking its final approval, Reuters reported.
Previously, White House officials said that President Obama would reject legislation that tries to push the project ahead.
The Nebraska ruling came hours before the US House of Representatives planned to vote on legislation approving the pipeline, Reuters has said.
In a statement, TransCanada’s President and Chief Executive Officer Russ Girling said “We welcome today’s decision by the Nebraska Supreme Court which has thrown out a lower court ruling – and the Governor’s approval of our pipeline route remains valid. This decision also means the approved route is valid and removes another delay in making a decision on our Keystone XL Presidential Permit application.”
