Canadians are now able to access NEB pipeline company field inspection reports online, which are made available online within six weeks of the inspection taking place to ensure that information is accurate and informative.
The reports will include detailed findings, outcomes, and any enforcement and compliance action taken by NEB Inspection Officers, and will be translated into both of Canada’s official languages, English and French.
The NEB regulates 2,117 energy facilities and 73,000 km of pipeline in Canada. In 2014, Canada’s NEB regulated pipeline network transported 1.27 billion barrels of hydrocarbon products (crude oil, natural gas, refined petroleum products, and natural gas liquids).
The decision is meant to improve transparency in an industry that traditionally has been reluctant to disclose data relating to its operations. It is also one fully in line with the expectations of the Canadian public.
“The NEB is opening up to be more transparent and to help Canadians better understand what we do every day to ensure pipeline safety,” said NEB Chair and CEO Peter Watson.
Inspection reports are posted on the NEB website.
