The 24 infrastructure projects announced include eight pipeline projects, which will add over 2,385 km to the national gas pipeline system.
According to CFE, these pipelines, and 11 which are already under construction and tender, meet the target set in the National Infrastructure Program to increase Mexico’s national gas pipeline system by 75 per cent during the government of President Enrique Pe̱a Nieto.
Secretary of Energy Pedro Joaquin Coldwell said the new pipelines will allow Mexico to better meet energy requirements in central, eastern, and western regions of the country.
The largest tender in this project is for an 800 km pipeline that will transport natural gas from an underwater route in the Gulf of Mexico, from southern Texas to Tuxpan, Veracruz.
The estimated investment is $US3.1 billion, with capacity to transport 2,600 Mcf/d of natural gas.
Publication of the tender is scheduled for this month, with a contracted to be awarded in December. The start of commercial operation is scheduled for June 2018.
Other pipelines soon to enter the tender process include:
- Tula pipeline – Villa de Reyes;
- Pipeline Villa de Reyes – Aguascalientes – Guadalajara;
- Nuts pipeline – Brownsville; and,
- Pipeline La Laguna – Aguascalientes.
