Johan Sverdup development ahead of schedule

The Johan Sverdup field development is continuing to progress well through the final stages of preparation for operations, with Equinor and its partners – Lundin Norway, Petoro, Aker BP and Total – accelerating production start-up plans.

Currently, the focus is to complete testing of the equipment and systems needed for the full field centre – spanning four platforms and three interconnected bridges and associated modules – to function and perform as a single installation.

Since plans for Phase 1 were submitted in 2015, the project has seen a significant cost reduction and schedule acceleration, with start-up initially planned for late December 2019 now predicted for October 2019.

Equinor Executive Vice President for Technology, Projects and Drilling Anders Opedal said that the expected schedule was already accelerated, almost twelve months ago, to November 2019.

“Now, as we enter the final stretch of the project, we believe it is possible to start production up to one month earlier,” said Mr Opedal.
