Indonesia-Singapore gas line launched

SINGAPORE’S prime minister Goh Chok Tong was in the Indonesian island of Batam on 4 August to mark the completion of the Sumatra-Singapore natural gas pipeline. Also attending the ceremony was Indonesian president Megawati Sukarnoputri.

The 477km-long pipeline, the result of a collaborative effort between Indonesia’s state-owned firm, PGN, and Singapore’s PowerGas, extends from Grissik in South Sumatra to Singapore, via Batam island, and is the second natural gas pipeline between the two countries. The pipeline will provide Singapore with US$9 billion of natural gas over the next 20 years.
