Gunnison Spar development contracts, GoM

The field, located in over 945m of water, was discovered in May, 2000, on Garden Banks block 668, and will be developed using the truss spar Kerr-McGee Global Producer VII. First oil from the development is anticipated in first quarter 2004.

The project scope will be manufactured at Wellstream’s Panama City, Florida, USA, facility where full-scale burst and dynamic testing will be carried out to confirm the pipe structure. Items delivered in June 2003 will include one 5.375-in ID flowline rated at 8,000psi (550 bar), three 5.375-in ID risers, rated at 8,000psi, and one 5.375-in ID jumper also rated at 8,000psi.

“Kerr-McGee and Wellstream have had a long and successful history in project execution including the Mississippi Canyon, Neptune, Boomvang, Nansen, Navajo, and Leadon field developments. This award is a continuation of the prosperous relationship developed over the last decade,” said Brian Cocksedge, managing director, Wellstream. “The project offers technical challenges for Wellstream due to high pressure and deepwater specifications. High-strength armour material will be utilized on the designs which allows for a lighter weight product to meet the onerous operating conditions.”
