The Trans Saharan Gas pipeline, to be operated by the Trans Saharan Natural Gas Consortium, will be an onshore pipeline that begins in Nigeria and ends in Algeria, with a planned total length of 4,400 km and a total capex of US$12 billion.
The Trans Saharan Gas pipeline is planned to commence operations in 2021.
According to the study, the other top four longest pipelines are all onshore gas pipelines planned in EMEA to 2020 are:
- the African Renaissance Project pipeline – will begin in Mozambique and end in South Africa; proposed length of 2,600 km; planned to be operational by 2021
- the Gasnosu pipeline – will also begin in Mozambique and end in South Africa; proposed length of 2,100 km; planned to be operational by 2020
- the Iranian Gas Trunkline-IGAT 9 pipeline – will begin in Iran and run past the western provinces to end at the Turkish border; proposed length of 1,900 km; planned to be operational by 2020
- the Trans Anatolian Pipeline – begins in Azerbaijan and will end in Italy; proposed length of 1,850 km; planned to be operational in 2018.
